PayPal Limit On New Members?

Negotiating a sale last night on a car, I had the buyer go into PayPal and create an acct and send me the usual 200.00 deposit.
He registers with a credit card and when trying to send me 200.00 bucks is told he is over his limit! And is told to increase his limit he needs to put a bank acct on file too.
I have done this many times and never had a problem before! Looks like they are wanting more funding sources to fall back on if someone charges back with there credit card!
Guess my office will be setting up a merchant service acct. Screw PayPal!

Doc to register a new sellers account on ebay no longer will just a credit card do it either. They now must have a checking account on record as well. This changed in the past few months. Thankfully I registered my second selling ID before that.
On the good side if you have been naru'd by ebay and try to use the same account info they will shut you down fast.

Our PayPal (family business) account has been closed for just over a year. Will never use it again. If my eBay account ever gets closed for any reason, I'll never open another. It appears that there is no control over ones money with eBay and PayPal. eBay states they are just a middle man, why would they want access to my bank and credit card accounts. Screw them!

We are going to open our own merchant account.
With internet transactions we need a small deposit to seal the deal. PayPal was a good option to grab a quick 200.00, but now with the greedy pricks requiring a bank acct be added and verified it is too much of a hassle!
eBay is just pushing there customers out the door left and right!!

Just set up with the bank to accept credit cards, have a machine like everybody else does. Just have to get a card number over the phone and punch it in. And in a chargeback situation we will have a record of the vehicle transaction as proof it was a valid charge. Case closed.
No bullshit from PayPal being a middle person! That is all they are anyway.

OK, I got it. You got your own machine. A little dense today. Can you also accept debit card or is it only credit card? Then you can take just about any major credit card, Am Express, Visa, MC and Discover? How about user fee, doesn't the credit card companies charge a 2 to 5 percent fee?
It sounds way better to use for your sales than PayPal, keeps a record, and gives you some protection.

We will be able to accept any major credit / debit card. Even for the purchase amount (if the buyer agrees to the fee we are charged)
It will cost probably 50.00 per month just to have the acct and equipment. That is why i have stuck with PP for so long, It was worth the 7.xx fee to accept a 200.00 deposit. But now we are planning on putting more listings on and if a reserve is not met i need to get a deposit from the first person that agrees on the price.
After i thought about it, this Jag guy was the 3rd person that had trouble sending a fast 200.00 with PayPal. Including the guy that bought the Rolls for 36,500
eBay is just screwing themselves out of more money! Oh well.. Fuck Em!!

Doc keep checking around. Connors wife (some day to be ex) has an account thru someone that is dirt cheap. They take as much as paypal would, but I think its only like 20.00 a month fee for everything on top of the percentage. Sure beats some I've checked into. I've been wanting to get one as well. Sure would come in handy around here with my customers who don't like to give out their info over the computer.
LOL if you decided to do a merchant account thru ebay let me know. I could use the referral money lol.

Doc, I think the machine will be a great asset to the buyers and sellers. Our family eBay business used PayPuke and what a mess.
We no longer sell, but my sister and niece both sell odds and ends on ebay, they use PayPuke and haven't had too many problems, low dollar stuff. My niece put my stepfathers motorhome on ebay, had Pay Puke for the deposit if the buyer wanted to use it. It got within $700.00 of the $20K reserve and sold locally for $23K.
