I'll make this as short as I can. Had an electrical sub-contractor, from the south, come on site to install some telephone wire along a 277 volt electrical line and underneath a 13.8KV and 230KV high voltage lines. Tried to educate this guy on what regulations and safety requirements we have on the government site.

Well, this guy, he kept telling me he knew what he was doing and didn't need anyone to tell him how to do his business. And it was coming out like the old saying that I heard many times down south, "We don't care how you do it up north." Well, this guy ignored every safety requirement, didn't have the proper tools and protective equipment, didn't show up on time or not at all. Damn near kicked him off site, but management said they were about done and let them finish.

Well, he's up in the bucket, stringing cable near the 230KV electrical line and comes down and says, "Everytime I touch that wire, I get a shock," jumps back in the bucket and says, "better get back up there and finish." Had to tell the guy his work day was over.

Now this guy was supposed to be experienced, said he was, and should of had a state electrical worker license. My question is, how smart is this guy and how many times did he have to get an electrical shock from the 230KV line weeping to the wire he was installing? He got a talking to, a critique was done, and afterwards I just had to tell him, "Next time you should care how we do it up north." He just care me a deer in the headlight stare and I walked off. There was three of us that had to bird dog them (escort) while they did there work and all three of us couldn't wait to get rid of him.
