my buddy that was in the mortgage bus. bought a little repair shop 1 yr ago, nice office space, showroom for wheels . i live there on the weekends.i have been on him that we need more cars to sell. we were out all fri and sat. we have a 01 vw golf,01 ford minivan, 92 mit. eclipse,91 celica gt,91 tempo,69 camaro SS, and a 91 eddie bauer ford mini van,but it needs head gaskets.
i was in heaven,drank beer in the sun and detailed cars all weekend.
only problem is im so stiff this morning i can hardly move,LOL.
start work at original parts group on mon.

I hope this is not going to be Curbstone Motors.. (Sigh)

At least find a local dealer that will run the deals through his books so everything is legal.

I sent my little Tercel to Texas Saturday, I could have very easily passed the open title along, but i ran it through our books and did all the paperwork, collected tax for Texas, and provided a legal 30 day temp tag..

Cost me 100.00 but i feel it was worth it to do the deal the right way!

the eclipce,celica and tempo were bought needing motor work and tags expired so i am going to register them, camaro is registered to my buddy.other cars r offered to us to sell by the owners, i just sold a MB SLC for a family friend,he is a attorney, he said what i do is fine, but yes he is a atty. so i cant believe him,LOL. i will detail advertise and show for 300$ plus ad cost, i set price i wont take a overpriced car that wont sell.
and i get a nice driver...... I know u hate curbstoners Doc, i respect that,i feel im doing right,cars that i have sold from my buddys shop,i give them his card tell them thr truth, we got the car did the motor work and sell it. every one has loved their car, and bring it to my buddy for service.....

Since your buddy has the business space etc maybe he should look into getting his dealer's license. Then you could be licensed as his salesman which is cheaper in most places. He really needs to be legit with a business space. Just takes one annoyed person to cause you both a load of grief. In some places, selling on consignment still takes a license. Could even be the competition, doesn't necessarily have to be a pissed off customer.

Mark, I do not hate CurbStoners..

But when someone peddles a car with an open title it can be a problem registering it. especially in another state.. Read plenty of those horror stories on the EBMDG..

What you are proposing to do requires a dealers license in Florida, Maybe in Arnold Ville a license is not required to "Broker" Cars for others.

I wish you well with your new enterprise.. Just hope you do it the right way..

Getting a dealer lic. is the way to go, another friend has one,he buys 4wd subarus here in cal. and ships them to a dealer in colorado, makes a killing at it. I am always after him to do more down here and to join up with us, so i hope that will work out.
i think of a curbstoner as selling junk,rolling back speedos ect. I am proud of every car i have sold, when people look at them,they tell me of the junk that they have looked at.
But u r right u have to do things right if u r playing the dealer game!!!!
In cal its ez to register,all u need is a DMV bill of sale. i sold a taurus to a guy,he took it to Nevada for his sister,no problem.
You r right, their r some horror stories on EBMDB on state to state sales.

I think it's the State not receiving the Sales Tax that might land you in the Clink!

In theory when someone buys a vehicle it is supposed to be titled in their name, and the appropriate amount of tax paid to the state. Having the seller sign off on the title, and then putting the persons name you sold it to as the buyer, is where you might get your nuts in a jamb..

Down here they call it "Jumping Titles" And plenty of deals are done that way every day.. I choose not to go that route.. Especially when i can pay a dealers fee to do it the right way. Everyone is happy..
