Hi Doc, im a EBM lurker also,and u r right about all of the problems with ebay. I think u and Tony r very smart car guys. BUT i have a question for u, im a mortgage broker but my hobby is cars , GM mostly, but anything that is a deal. i buy and sell 15 ,20 cars a year, so i guess im a curbstoner? been doing it for 10 years , i have never had a problem with a title or with a car. I tell people i bought the car because it was a deal and i can do whatever i want with it. I have the seller sign title,and the DMV bill of sale, my buyer just registers the car. ALL my cars r mint to start with but i love detailing after a long week of work. I dont roll back speedos, sell junk or rip people off, i just dont pay sales tax... is that such a bad thing????

Only if you get caught! Then the judge will let you know how bad!

From what i have read on the EBMDG, Open titles can be a problem to transfer. I have read many threads over the past few years where someone has bought a car that the seller was not the person on the title, and could not transfer it. Conveniently eBay Excludes this from the purchase protection policy.

I know a guy that buys from newspapers and sells on the side of the road and has been doing so for a long time, so far he has been lucky! I don't think i want to take that risk!

While you may get away with it too, all it takes is someone getting into an accident, or using the vehicle in a felony! The law will come after the registered owner who will finger you.. You will say, But i sold it to a guy last week in an abandoned gas station, he paid me cash and i gave him the title and keys.. Your ASS is in real trouble!

On top of that, you are cheating the state out of their Sales Tax! And they could file charges against you..

GOOD MONDAY MORN !!!! yes i have been lucky, but i sell nice caddies,buicks, camaros ect, late 80 early 90s. when people buy nice cars they register them right away. if you sell $500 junk, those are the people that cant afford the 100 to register, and they drive them and get tickets ect. im selling a 89 formula firebird that i found in a granpas garage, to old to drive, ABSOLUTY PERFECT, white,t tops new everything granpo changed the oil every 3 months, and that was about 300 miles !!!!! between changes, I sold a olds cutlass to a single mother awhile back, the car was perfect, a week or so later her mother called to thank me,tell me how happy the were, and had me find her a car!!!!! I like the mortgage biz, but i would luv to have a small nice car lot spend my days out in the calif sun washing amd waxing all day LOL have a great day everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
