Hi Doc,
If your going to move this board, I guess you will let everyone know to where. So, please put me on you email list. I really need a place to kick back once in a while and can't go to the EBM board because I'm finding it to be hazardous to my head. It just gets so damn depressing to see "vehicle was misrepresented; I’ve been scammed, etc." over and over again.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill

If i move the site host, the name will stay the same the change will be transparent on the members side. Hopefully webmasters.com will get things working better. They have been rock solid for 3 years!!

Yea i know about the eBay Board, same old thing going on! If it wern't for Sharon running nekked through the place it would just totally suck!

Everyone is welcome to make this place a home.. You can speak here without fear of sensorship! All i ask is that there be no threats of physical violence, otherwise it's a free and open board.. :)

From my webhost. Hopefully this will cure the access denied errors!

We are planning a major upgrade of PHP and Apache within the next 7 days on all servers. The following will be the upgraded versions:

Apache 1.3.34
PHP 5.1.2
OpenSSL 0.9.8a
libmysqlclient 5.0.18
ionCube PHP Loader v3.1.9
Zend Optimizer v2.6.2
Fileinfo 1.0.3
dbx 1.1.0

Although we have done extensive testing, and found no significant incompatibilities which may cause your scripts to break, we highly recommend that you evaluate your code to make sure it is fully compliant with PHP 5. For detailed information on the major differences between PHP 4 and 5, please see http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration5.php. If you have any problems after the upgrade, please let us know right away, and we will attempt to find a solution. Thank you for your business.

Doc,

I get errors, "Forbidden" when reading and trying to post. It doesn't matter if I'm using EI or Mozilla.

Hope you get it fixed soon!

I have confidence that webmasters.com will get this problem solved..

They have been a top notch hosting company for several years now, and for only 9.95 per month they are a very good deal for the money..

Anyone else getting these errors? Please post in this thread. I am going to file another trouble ticket with them, and post a link to this thread so they can see it is not only me getting them.

I opened a trouble ticket on this 2 hours ago, and got a Phone Call from a supervisor who was very knowledgeable but we could not duplicate the problem over the phone. After that they were able to find a problem. It is below.

Looks like the board needs updating, I have thought about this for a long time but hesitated do do it because its a real PITA! I guess i will attempt it Sunday sometime, just hopefully nothing will get lost :)

I have to give Webmasters.com Five Thumbs Up for there excellent customer support! Too bad eBay don't take care of there clients the same way!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ed,

This is very unusual. I did not see any errors in your error_log and I did not *intially* experience an error. When I started randomly clicking topics I did experience the forbidden error and I received it when I tried to visit your homepage. No errors were reported, which usually should be, especially with that error.

We haven't upgraded to PHP5 and we will not:

REVISED: Due to significant incompatibilities between PHP 4 and 5 we have revised our upgrade plan. The following software will be upgraded to the specified versions within the next 14 days:

Apache 1.3.34
PHP 4.4.2
OpenSSL 0.9.8a
libmysqlclient 5.0.18
ionCube PHP Loader v3.1.9
Zend Optimizer v2.6.2
Fileinfo 1.0.3

The only thing that is different is MySQL 5.0.18, and from the looks of it, your message board has been around for a while, and probably installed during the previous version of MySQL (4.1.11).

I checked the integrity of your tables and some of them needed to be fixed with MySQL's table checking utility. This utility cleans out corruption.

This may or may not permanently fix the issue. I would like to recommend to you that you backup your current phpBB2 installation using their admin features, then completely uninstall it from your webspace and database manager (simply remove the phpBB2 directory and all the phpbb tables from your database manager), then re-install it.

Let us know how it goes, and I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Please feel free to contact us again at any time if you need additional assistance. Thank you for contacting us.

Wow, actual human and all. I've been getting all kinds of error messages on ebay, I'm sure if I call them they'll tell me to toss my cookies and clear my cache. Never helps but I guess it makes the CS rep feel important.

That is why i stick with them.

We are on a co-hosted server, that means a couple hundred others share it as well. Someone could be hogging the resources at times. Webmasters will boot any hogs fast! And they care about their clients.. That is worth a lot to me!

I will reload the board Sunday sometime..

I have successfully updated the board to the latest version http://www.phpbb.com 2.0.19..

Was having a fit earlier getting the Permission Denied errors. I was also unable to get a full FTP backup of all the board files, my FTP program error-ed out doing a batch download..

Sent off another eMail to webmasters support and had a reply by the time i got home! They even offered to do the board upgrade for me! Now that's above the average support i have ever seen!

Anyway i was able to do a full FTP backup from home, and update the changed files on my own.. The board seems to be working fine!

I must say.. Plug for http://www.webmasters.com if you need a web-host? You can't beat these folks! 9.95 Month Web Hosting.. Paid by the year.. And they give you so much for your $$! See http://www.controlpanel.com for a hosting control panel demo!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ed,

What errors are being displayed in the FTP client when the downloads you re attempting fail? Are they timeouts or disconnects? From what you are saying this is a random occurrence, meaning it does not have a set time period of when it occurs it just occurs. If you can contact when the issue is occurring I might have a better view of what might be causing this to occur server side. If you like I can create a SQL dump of the forum and send that to you in email or leave it in your httpdocs/ directory. I can then install the latest version of PHPbb for you to bring the forum up to latest version and possibly alleviate this issue.

Please feel free to contact us again at any time if you need additional assistance. Thank you for contacting us.

Best regards,

J. Marquand

I got that error again. I was in the posts since your last visit. When I tried to back out it went to an page that looked different but still had the new posts. I was able to access them fine from that page.

Leon thinks he has found the problem..

Ed,

I am pretty sure I founf the problem. There was a .htaccess file in
phpBB2/cache/ which denied access to every visitor which would be consistent
to you getting the forbidden errors sporadically. I have removed it. Please
let me know if this happens again after you get this message. Thanks.

Ed,

We have isolated this problem to be a hardware issue, and will consequently
be replacing all the hardware on your server by Monday. It should be fully
resolved by then. I apologize for the delay in fixing this problem, but it
has proven to be very tricky to diagnose. I appreciate your patience. Thank
you.
